Why conducting Google searches for phrases such as “how to make money fast” is mostly an exercise in futility.
Look, I tried to cover the top 20 Google search results for this topic, but in all honesty after going through 18 webpages in detail, I just couldn’t stomach the garbage any more. I threw my hands up and quit after 18 pages. I just didn’t see any benefit to you the reader, by covering two more pages.
So this is the second article/exercise where I have gone through virtually every word of the top 20 or so Google search results (webpages) for a key word phrase on the topic of making money. The article prior to this was on the keyword phrase “How to get Rich.”
As a result, a couple things have become very clear. First, as smart as the engineers at Google are their algorithms heavily favor large, massive websites, even when those websites publish crappy, redundant, and useless blog post.
Secondly, I realize that sometimes a person just needs a quick $25 bucks and are looking for ideas. But I am fairly confident that those people have already heard of things like “selling their stuff, “mowing yards’, “baby sitting” and “cutting back on Starbucks.” That’s why wading through the top 20 (or more) search results for this phrase is probably a colossal waste of your time!
Now maybe it’s just me, but I tend to believe that when people sit down at a computer and start searching for ways to make money, or “fast” money, I think they are looking for something deeper than “hold a yard sale.” Just a wild guess on my part but they probably know that one already.
So when I meticulously go through the top 20 results looking for true golden nuggets of information, and all I find is the exact same 100 or so suggestions, re-worded a thousand times by some of the biggest financial players on the internet, well it is freakin disappointing.
It’s my guess too that if you are looking for ways to make some “fast money”, you have bigger money problems anyway. Which reminds me of a quote I heard many years ago;
“You don’t have money problems you have idea problems.”
There is plenty of money in the world, but you have to provide something of value in exchange for other people’s money. That value can be in the form of either a product or a service. Yes “selling your used stuff” is providing value to others, so long as they see the value in it..
But can I stretch your mind for a moment?
Will you allow me to provide you with some inspiration and encouragement that you will most likely not find anywhere in the top 25 or even 30 Google search results for the phrase ”how to make money fast?”
Here is how you make money fast!
See how Ahmed Khattak started a cell phone company from scratch and reached $100 million in revenues in just 4 years. That is fast!
How Shazi Visram started an organic baby food company and reached $62 million in sales in just 6 short years!
How Andrew Mason went from obscurity to Billionaire faster than anyone in history – just 2 years!
How Sheri and Rich Schmelzer started a company in their basement and sold it in one year for $20 million!
In 2002 Nick Woodman gave himself 4 years to build a profitable company. Two years later he attended his first trade show and sold his entire initial inventory. Today Nick Woodman of GoPro is worth over $2 Billion.
These are all examples of creating wealth fast. Compare any of these methods to working a job for 40 years, or as Google will tell you, selling your used stuff on Ebay.
So here are Google’s top 18 results, minus the paid results (advertisements) and minus a couple of results that had to do with playing the video game Grand Theft Auto.
Only a couple of the pages are even worth checking out. They are noted and links are provided to those pages.
Sidenotes- I don’t link to every article- most are not worth it. My “Ratings” are non-standardized. It’s whatever my prevailing thought is at the time I write it. I only earmarked my #1 pick. I thought it was pointless to pick a #2 and #3.
25 Unusual Ways To Make Quick Money – DailyFinance
Holding the #1 position in Google search results for the phrase “hot to make money fast” you would think a site like DailyFinance.com would attempt to give their visitors something, ok anything valuable for the time spent clicking through their 25 highly uninformative slides. Yes I hate websites that make you click through ridiculous slides to get the same information they could put in a single blog post. The only reason for this is that it adds to their sites analytics, I get it.
At least if they were true to their blog title “unusual ways” to make quick money I might not be so offended. Last I checked collecting aluminum cans, holding a yard sale, taking a part time job, starting a part time pooper scooper business, or collecting your change was not really that unusual. Maybe its just me. But those were not the worst suggestions in their list of 25. Get a payday loan? Really? What great advice from a site whose subject matter is daily finance.
Rating- Pathetic excuse for a blog post
6 Legitimate Ways to Make Money Fast – wikiHow
If you are looking for any original or creative thoughts on how to make money fast, you will not find it on this page at wikiHow. In fact there is nothing here you would not also find in the DailyFinance slideshow.
I must say they are more true to their title. Selling stuff is a legit way to make money since virtually every business in existence sells either a product or a service. So wikiHow, can you come up with something more inspiring than selling your used CDs and DVDs?
I just think that when people go online and search for ways to make money fast, they have probably already thought about selling their used stuff, doing odd jobs, or babysitting. Oh, and they just had to through it payday loans, son uninspiring!

This is my #1 pick for the top 18 search results for the phrase “How to make money fast”
How to make money fast (without getting caught in a scam)- Iwillteachyoutoberich
Much more deserving of the #1 position than the horrendous web page by DailyFinance, Ramit Sethi is the author of the New York Times Bestseller I Will Teach You To Be Rich and the website iwillteachyoutoberich.
Ramit’s entire site is well worth exploring as is this specific page. On it Ramit discusses everything from how to negotiate #100 off your bills right now, to his save $1,000 in a week challenge” and “starting your own online business.” But unlike some of the other sites that offer token regurgitated ideas, Ramit gives specifics and way over delivers in exchange for your mouse click. In fact Ramit proclaims that he gives away 98% of his material for free.
For example; just one of the articles linked to from this page is an extensive article titled “3 essential systems for starting an online business.” He goes on to explain how these three things are the backbone and foundation for any online business. My observations are that Ramit delivers as promised.

50 Ways to Make a Fast $50 – Money Talks News
Much along the lines of the DailyFinance and the wikiHow articles, the author of this article at least put some effort into it and tries to distinguish itself from the others.
It divides the opportunities for making “fast money” into 10 headings such as; performing tasks, renting, selling, sitting, etc. It covers many of the same areas but for example under the heading “performing tasks” it does provide a list of 7 websites where someone can go and perform a variety of tasks for pay. These webistes include Field Agent, Agent Anything, Zaarly, Fiverr, and TaskRabbit. I have heard of Fiverr before but I have to admit I was unfamiliar with some of the other sites listed.
Under Arts and Crafts the author lists 6 places to sell your items such as FestivalNet.com, RedBubble, and the one most people are familiar with, Etsy.
Overall this article is uninspiring but I guess it could be a resource for some people looking to make more money.

How to Make Money Fast – Easy Ways to Make $1,000 in… redbookmag
Redbook is a magazine for women so I was interested to see what type of advice or ideas they had for their lady readers on the topic of making fast money. The full title of their article is “6 Easy Ways to Make $1,000 this Weekend.” So the headline has my attention.
Kudos to Redbook for being at least being somewhat original. This article gives the names, hometowns and ages of 5 women (plus the author) and what their biggest weekend haul was in dollars, for various money making efforts. One lady for example made $1300 in one weekend hosting direct selling parties for sex-toys. Another lady became a Justice of the Peace and began doing weddings. Her biggest weekend of back to back weddings was $600 (so not quite $1,000 but ok). Still another lady made $1,831 in one weekend through her Etsy business selling handmade wreaths.

100 Ways to Make $100 Fast – Good Financial Cents
So when I see a headline like this; “100 ways to make $100 fast”, I know it has to be more of the same ole, same ole; dog walking, house sitting, collecting cans, selling blood, sell your stuff, rent out a room, ad infinitum. So let’s see if I was correct?
Well it is an extensive list and yes the vast majority is the same stuff recycled all over the internet. But I have to say some are worth looking at. Some examples are; Social media manager (yes people really make money doing this especially if you manage social media accounts for several businesses), Staging houses for sale and Event planning. All of these are legitimate businesses but I am not so sure about the “fast” part.
But if you are looking for original, inspiring success stories or money making ideas you might want to pass on this webpage. Unless you think cleaning gutters, selling something on Craigslist and eating cheap for a week is good web copy don’t bother clicking. My all time favorite, give up Starbucks for a month….
40 easy ways to make money quickly – Save the Student
Just another re-hashed list with all the regular stuff, dog walking, sell your stuff on Ebay, and another favorite, online surveys. Nothing original here folks. The only thing different about this list is that it hails from the UK. He does throw in a few legitimate ways to make money such as “start a website”, write and publish a Kindle eBook, and affiliate marketing. But there is little depth to these topics and they serve mostly to stuff the list. Who has not heard of heard of starting a website before now?

How To Make Money Fast as a Teenager – YouTube
This is a clever and fun YouTube video from the channel RclBeauty101. The main star of the video is a teenage girl, Rachel Levin, who goes over a few ways kids can make money. The most original idea on the video is to do make up for your mother’s friends for special events. But it also includes the usual stuff, dog walking, recycling cans surveys and selling your clothes. But she also sneaks in a couple of new ideas like selling your school lunch and telling your parents you need money for a school trip that doesn’t exist. This girl is herself making money with YouTube. Her channel has 6.7 million subscribers and her videos have over 800 million views. If you are a young person and you want to make money on the internet, perhaps you should be studying what Rachel Levin is actually doing, and not the content of this cool little video.

5 Ways to Make Money Faster Than Fast – US News
I am amazed that a site as big as U.S. News would publish such pure junk - mind numbing, re-hashed, junk clogging up search results. It’s a good thing I stumbled across this blog post or I never would have thought about babysitting! And even worse, Google lets it show up on page #1 of their search results.
Rating – Junk, pretending to be a legitimate blog post about making money fast.
10 Ways to Find Fast Cash, More Savings – NerdWallet
The only new information I see here is the phrase “work today for pay today.” The author advises that if you search on that phrase you will find sites such as LaborReady and LaborWorks that can help you find jobs immediately, and you will get paid at the end of the day. Other suggestions are more along the lines of personal finance and budget, which of course is what NerdWallet is all about. Cut your insurance premiums, Consolidate your debt, change your cell phone plan and refinance student loans are other suggestions.

5 Smart Ways to Raise Cash in a Flash – AllYou.com
Another dreaded slideshow, but at least this one is only 11 slides long. The five strategies are “sell your stuff”, “rent your stuff”, “get a loan”, hire yourself out” (yes this slide has a picture of a dog walker, not kidding) and “tap into your assets.” Sound familiar? Yeah, I thought so too.

Need Cash Now? 101 Ways to Make Money Fast – thepennyhoarder
So while I was just about to write another negative review of this search result, I came across one headline/link on the page that got my attention. In fact I was about to make fun of the suggestion to try “Dumpster Diving” when I saw the claim that one guy allegedly makes up to $2,500 a night from his dumpster activities. This article is also on thepennyhoarder website.
I have to say, that this one article, linked up on this webpage “101 ways to make money fast” was worth reading. Most people will likely not take up dumpster diving, but… you never know.

20 unusual ways to make quick money – AOL
Who knew AOL was even still around? About this search result for “How to make money fast” that Google sees fit to put on page #2; Redundant, redundant, redundant. And in true AOL fashion it was the slowest loading page and the clunkiest of all slideshows I tried to click through.
How to Make Money Doing (Almost) Nothing – Lifehacker
At least Lifehacker is honest when they say at the top of this article that most ways to make money require actual work, and that the suggestions they offer here is only to make a “bit of extra cash” while in a checkout line or in a waiting room. So we are probably talking about pennies not a couple of hundred dollars.
There is literally nothing new in this blog post that has not been covered by virtually every single webpage/blog post search result before it. Can you say surveys…

How To Make Money Fast On The Internet: 4 Methods That Really Work… onlineprofits
This page is what is known as a “landing page” for the keyword “how to make money fast” and is designed specifically to capture your email.
Yes it goes over 4 ways to make money, all are very legitimate online ways such as Selling an Ebook, Affiliate Marketing and Freelance Writing. The 4th idea is the old “selling on Ebay.”
Just know that this page is designed to capture your email and eventually sell you an information product. This is a very legitimate online business method. I have not reviewed and do not have an opinion on the website onlineprofits.com.

How To Make Money Fast Online – mrfire.com
Dr Joe Vitale is a highly acclaimed marketer and copywriter. If you have ever studied online marketing in any sense, it is likely you have heard about him or read some of his material. Dr Vitale, also known as “The Hypnotic Writer”, has authored numerous books and has built multiple websites on the topics of marketing, copywriting, publicity and advertising.
Dr Vitale’s answer for “how to make money fast online”, centers on discovering what the most popular current searches on Google are for, and quickly creating a product such as an e-book, to capitalize on the current hot trend(s). Probably not bad advice considering who it is coming from.
Rating – Worthy of consideration.
